There are three main ways in which cancer is treated:

Some types of cancer, such as breast cancer, can be treated using hormone therapy or biological therapies (i.e. therapies that use the body's own defence system to fight cancer).

Chemotherapy is more frequently used for people who have more advanced cancer. There are many different types of chemotherapy that are used to treat people with cancer. The type of chemotherapy used depends on where the cancer (tumour) is in the body, and how advanced it is. Often, more than one type of chemotherapy is used at the same time. Oral chemotherapy , like intravenous (i.v.) chemotherapy, can be used to treat a wide variety of cancers.
